What the map shows
- Home (residential) solar installs, counted per ZIP code. Public data has no street addresses, so dots sit in the middle of each ZIP.
- New York loads live from New York's open data and is refreshed daily.
- Connecticut and other states come from Berkeley Lab's national data, which runs through the end of 2024.
- Some states are not in the public data yet. No names, addresses or prices are shown.
- Installer counts are from public records. They are not a ranking or an endorsement.
Data sources
- Berkeley Lab, Tracking the Sun (2025 public data file, installs through 2024)
- NYSERDA, Solar Electric Programs and Statewide Distributed Solar Projects on NY Open Data
- Connecticut Green Bank, RSIP (CT data in Tracking the Sun comes from CT Green Bank)
- ZIP locations: US Census Bureau ZCTA Gazetteer
